The Academy elected prof Mart Kalm to be the new rector

An electoral college at the Estonian Academy of Arts on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 elected Mart Kalm as the new rector of the academy.

The three candidates vying for the post were Mart Kalm, the academy’s current Vice Rector of Research, Andres Tali, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, and Ivar Sakk, Head of the Department for Graphic Design.

Kalm won the election with 37 votes against ten votes given for Sakk and Tali each. Fifty-seven out of the electoral college’s 61 members were present during the vote.

Kalm will start his five-year tenure as rector on April 4.
