SUMMARY:Mari Männa and Maria Erikson “Imprint of Vulnerability” [Exhib
 itions]
DESCRIPTION:\\nYou are warmly invited to the opening of the exhibition Imp
rint of Vulnerability on Friday\\\, 16 January at 6 pm at Tallinn City Ga
llery. The joint exhibition by Mari Männa and Maria Erikson approaches m
aterial as an active participant. Fragility and delicacy operate here as w
orking methods: form emerges through cracking\\\, breaking\\\, and acts of
care. Drying\\\, deformation\\\, and the formation of imprints are not de
viations or failures\\\, but part of a process through which material reme
mbers\\\, transforms\\\, and shapes its own rhythm. The exhibition is cura
ted by Madli Ljutjuk. “Imprint of Vulnerability approaches fertility b
eyond biological or gender-defined terms. Here\\\, fertility is understood
as an existential condition: the capacity to change\\\, to be receptive\\
\, and to remain within uncertainty. The exhibition invites viewers to exp
erience fragility and delicacy not as weakness\\\, but as sources of vital
ity and renewal\\\, fostering a sense of connection to a bodily\\\, cyclic
al understanding of life\\\,” explains curator Madli Ljutjuk.Working tog
ether for the first time\\\, the artists approach the same question from d
ifferent angles. In Männa’s works\\\, a logic of emergence unfolds: the
world is born from disintegration and transitional states in which life h
as not yet settled into its final form. Erikson begins with the wound –
the moment when a surface is opened and forced to remember. For both artis
ts\\\, form is not an end point but a temporary condition\\\, something st
ill in the process of becoming. Through sculptural and printmaking proces
ses\\\, the exhibition reveals how form emerges where something is broken
 or unfinished. Cracking\\\, drying\\\, imprinting\\\, and deformation do n
ot signify rupture\\\, but a generative dynamic. The exhibition speaks of
two modes of becoming – emergence and the wound – as different manifes
tations of the same process. The exhibition is set against a world in whi
ch fixed boundaries are dissolving. The human no longer stands at the cent
re\\\, but exists as one participant among bodies and materials in an enta
ngled network. In such a world\\\, fertility becomes receptivity – the a
bility to remain open even when the outcome is uncertain. Imprint of Vuln
erability invites us to slow down and notice how life emerges precisely t
hrough interruption. The exhibition will remain open until 5 April 2026.\

SUMMARY:Hayden Daughtry’s “Prairie Dog Town” in Uus Rada Gallery [Exh
 ibitions]
DESCRIPTION:\\n\\n\\n\\n\\n“A prairie dog town refers to the vast undergr
ound networks of tunnels and chambers constructed by prairie dogs across t
he grasslands. At the surface\\\, these colonies appear as little more tha
n a dispersed field of cone-shaped mounds. Beneath this modest topography\
\\, however\\\, lies an extensive and highly organized architecture: a lab
yrinth of tunnels connecting nesting chambers\\\, waste disposals\\\, list
ening bays\\\, nurseries\\\, and bolt holes\\\, before branching into dist
inct wards and family burrows.\\n\\n\\n\\nPrairie Dog Town takes this subt
erranean architecture as both structure and allegory. The exhibition turns
toward other underground networks—such as those operating within the lo
gic of cartoons—where the burrow becomes a conceptual passage. Moving be
low the visible surface\\\, tunnels open onto chambers of a more devious n
ature: spaces where  logics conceal themselves\\\, circulate\\\, and mult
 iply.” - H.D.\\n\\n\\n\\n“Prairie Dog Town” is Hayden Daughtry’s i
naugural show in Estonia. Originally from South Carolina\\\, entering the
European art scene through the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam\\\, Hayden l
ets the uncanny constructs of the outside seep into the gallery\\\, places

helpful to overcome the technocrats’ devastating business as usual.  \
\n\\nDr. Katarina Bonnevier practices through the art and architecture col

making of public places\\\, installations\\\, and social situations. An ar
chitect by training\\\, Bonnevier connects queer and feminist perspectives
with ecological care and spatial justice through storytelling and hands-o

entire gallery\\\, highlighting the spaces of EKA Gallery and its contents
. The conceptual framework also includes the group exhibition “Field Not

to artist Riin Maide. This role-playing gesture treats the form of collabo

SUMMARY:Gerda Hansen and Rebecca Norman “On the Verge of Completion” [E
 xhibitions]
DESCRIPTION:\\n\\n\\n\\n\\nOn Thursday\\\, 9 April at 6:00 PM\\\, a duo exh
ibition On the Verge of Completion by contemporary artists Gerda Hansen an
d Rebecca Norman will be opened at the Hobusepea Gallery.\\n\\n\\n\\nThe e
nd is actually an unspeakably bleak place where no clear way forward prese
nts itself and nothing no longer seems to lie ahead. The duo exhibition by
Gerda Hansen and Rebecca Norman invites the viewer to experience art not
only as something definitive\\\, but as a way of becoming. The exhibition
reveals the stages of artistic practice that usually remain hidden\\\, off
ering a chance to step into the moment where a work is born and where mean
ings have not yet settled.\\n\\n\\n\\nThe exhibition examines the boundari
es between completion and incompletion\\\, approaching finality not as a d
estination\\\, but as a state in which the forward movement is temporarily
suspended. The creative process\\\, often shaped by uncertainty\\\, exper
imentation and internal tension\\\, is usually resolved when the artist de
cides to declare a work complete. In this exhibition however\\\, the viewe
r comes into contact with the process rather than the finalised work. The
presented works do not conceal their unfinished state. Instead\\\, they em
phasise its value. On these canvases\\\, thoughts remain dispersed\\\, for
ms and tones are still taking shape\\\, and meanings remain open. It is a
moment where possibilities remain unended and the potential of the work is
still unfolding.\\n\\n\\n\\nPerhaps completing a work is a merely provisi
onal decision\\\, a pause within an ongoing process? The artist appears he
re as a practitioner of continuous choices and interruptions\\\, guided by
an intuitive and often sensitive self-reflection. Imperfection\\\, repeti
tion and error are not deviations\\\, but integral to the organic nature o
f making. As Gilles Deleuze suggests\\\, artworks are not defined by what
they appear to be at a given moment\\\, but by what they might become. The
exhibition offers an insight into the concealed layers of artistic produc
tion\\\, presenting the artwork as something that unfolds over time.\\n\\n
\\n\\nIn Hansen’s works\\\, layered structures strive toward presence an
d transparency. Repeating forms and interruptions create a rhythm that doe
s not lead to a solution but instead exposes different stages of the creat
ive process. She is interested in the moment when a work of art dissolves
and comes into being at the same time. In Norman’s practice\\\, the noti
on of completion is examined through its various permutations including th
e use of unstable colour pigments. For her\\\, the apparent incompleteness
of a work is not a deficiency\\\, and the abundance of potential is reali
sed through the material itself. The tension between continuation and comp
letion becomes a deliberately sustained condition\\\, in which the work do
es not close\\\, but remains in an active and meaningful state of breathin
 g.\\n\\n\\n\\nArtists
          \\n\\n\\n\\nGerda Hansen (b. 1994) is a contemporary Est
onian-based artist whose practice explores the intersections of painting a
nd digital image-making. She holds a BA in painting (2022) and an MA in co
ntemporary art (2025) from the Estonian Academy of Arts. In the current ex
hibition\\\, Hansen brings together manual processes with AI-based generat
ive systems. Her works emerge through a visual dialogue with the machine i
n which images remain intentionally ambiguous and leave the attribution of
meaning to the viewer. Hansen has exhibited both in Estonia and internati
onally and is the recipient of the 2023 Adamson-Eric Young Artist Scholars
hip.\\n\\n\\n\\nRebecca Norman (b. 2001) graduated in painting from the Es
tonian Academy of Arts (2025)\\\, while also supplementing her studies at
the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (2024). Her practice addresses the conv
ergence and misalignment between the author and the material and the resul
ting dissonant outcomes. Her works often engage with seemingly insignifica
nt moments that call for new forms of categorisation through sustained att
ention. She is drawn to utilitarian objects that have irreversibly lost th
eir function and various forms of apparent nonsense that mimic purposefuln
ess. Norman has participated in several group exhibitions and received the
Endover Prize for her 2025 graduation work Loaded Vacuity.\\n\\n\\n\\nCur

ted with a master's degree in health sciences from the Tallinn University
and has also an MA from curatorial studies and a BA in jewellery and black

SUMMARY:Seminar: How to write a more inclusive\, transnational and polyphon
ic history of the visual arts on a European scale today?
DESCRIPTION:The EKA Institute of Art History and Visual Culture is part of
the Visual Arts in Europe: An Open History (EVA) project that brings toget
her more than 150 art and heritage historians representing the 46 member c
ountries of the Council of Europe. The project is led by an Editorial Boar
d\\\, composed of six European specialists\\\, and supported by the Intern
ational Association of Research Institutes in the History of Art (RIHA). I
ts scientific and operational coordination is provided by the Institut nat
ional d’histoire de l’art (INHA) in Paris.\\nLaunched in 2019\\\, this
scientific and editorial project results in the publication of a digital
platform\\\, documenting the history of the visual arts on the European co
ntinent\\\, from prehistory to the present day. This platform will be stru
ctured around a collection of 475 objects and images\\\, selected in consu
ltation with all of its institutional partners. It is developed within the
framework of an international dialogue\\\, remaining attentive to the plu
rality and richness of scholarly traditions\\\, accessible to all audience
s\\\, and providing an account of current research in the discipline of ar
t history.\\nThis seminar will examine the principles that inspired the la
unch of this project\\\, the methodology used both for the selection of ob
jects and the attribution of associated texts\\\, as well as the challenge
s encountered during the development of the digital platform. The presenta
tion of the project and platform prototype will be followed by an open dis
cussion with colleagues from the EKA Institute of Art History and Visual C
ulture\\\, host of this seminar and Estonian project partner. With INHA di
rector Anne-Solène Rolland and project coordinator Margot Sanitas present
\\\, the seminar will be an opportunity for all the Estonian representativ
es to share their reflections on the selection of objects and how the proj
ect contributes to reshaping our common history of European visual culture

it going? We would love to see some trials or progress pictures. At the mo
