Focusing on the role of architects, artists and community residents in
shaping a socially responsible future, Masayo Ave, former professor at
EKA and the founder of SXD.Lab Berlin, presents an award-winning
urban transformation project ongoing in former East Germany as a
noteworthy example. It is a project that transformed 1980s social
housing blocks into a climate-neutral residential area, now known for the
cultural enrichments realised through extraordinary enhancement of
residents’ participation.
The initiative proves the importance of improving energy efficiency in
stages, providing facilities to support the best education and healthcare,
and creating a greener environment that adapts to social and climate
changes. Above all, it emphasises the indispensable value of cultural
enrichment through active resident participation, which is essential for
meeting the demands of a healthy and inclusive community for a sustainable future. In the lecture, you will learn how it has been sincerely
conceived and implemented, and by whom.
