Maria Muuk is a designer and writer whose main research interest is food and its semiotic meanings. She graduated from the EKA Department of Graphic Design in 2016.
Together with Ott Kagovere, she organised self-initiated theory education directed to graphic design students during 2015–2018; the most active period of this time was spent as GD Project Space in a studio room on Paavli street, with a diverse programme open for the general public. In 2017, Maria headed to Berlin for an internship at the graphic design studio Node. She then continued her studies in Amsterdam at the master’s programme Critical Studies of the Sandberg Institute, where she developed research, written and artistic practices relating to the subject of visual, linguistic and affective communication. One of the most prevalent of these turned out to be the practice of conceptual catering as an interpretation of the theme of cultural transformation and adaptation.
Currently, Maria is back in Estonia, working parallerly as freelance graphic designer, teacher and pastry chef.
