UI/UX Design Intensive Course

UI/UX Design Intensive Course is designed for beginners who want to learn modern design technologies to create digital products and services that meet user needs. It’s a great opportunity to try out Figma software and get familiar with the daily tasks of a UI/UX designer in an IT company.

In 2026, UI/UX design will be one of the most in-demand professions in the IT and design industries. Design has the power to improve the world, and UI/UX designers contribute to this daily by enhancing user experiences and creating more convenient, modern, and aesthetically appealing solutions. This course provides fundamental knowledge of UI/UX design.

Note! The course will be conducted in English.

Course Outline

Each session includes both UI/UX theory and Figma practice.

Day 1– Introduction to UI/UX/Product Design

Theory:

  • What is UX, UI and Product design
  • Titles and roles in a digital product
  • Popular Ux-frameworks and methodologies
  • Figma products: Design, FigJam, Slides, Buzz, Sites, Make

Practice in Figma:

  • Introduction to the interface and tools.
  • Frames, groups, sections
  • Setting up a project, naming and project cover
  • Creating the app structure (navigation map)
  • Define the product idea (we select one case for the whole week)
  • Basic app architecture & screens

Day 2– Research & Structure

Theory:

  • User journey and flows
  • Target audience and personas
  • Basic UX research logic
  • Sketching and wireframing
  • Platform guidelines (iOS vs Android basics)

Practice in Figma:

  • Layout grid and spacing
  • Wireframing using shapes and text
  • Building user flow
  • Basic shapes, text, and image manipulation.
  • Using comments & collaboration
  • Exploring Figma Community (UI kits, inspiration)

Day 3 — Visual Design & UI

Theory:

  • Visual hierarchy
  • Color systems
  • Typography and work with texts
  • Accessibility basics
  • How developers work with your design

Practice in Figma:

  • Styles
  • Constraints and auto layouts
  • Creating buttons, inputs, cards
  • Turning wireframes into high-fidelity screens

Day 4 — Interaction & Prototyping. Design systems & UI kits.

Theory:

  • Design Systems VS UI kits
  • UX testing types (usability, guerrilla testing, A/B basics)
  • Handoff to developers (design specs, inspect mode)
  • Common mistakes in junior portfolios

Practice in Figma:

  • Components with variants
  • Building a small UI kit
  • Variables and libraries
  • Interactive prototype
  • Smart animate transitions
  • Linking full user flow

Day 5– AI tools, Summary & Professional Opportunities

Theory:

  • AI tools from text to wireframe generators
  • How to present a design case
  • Turning class project into portfolio case
  • Junior designer skill map
  • Job market expectations
  • Useful UI/UX resources

Practice in Figma:

  • Intro to Figma Make
  • Creating presentation with your project

Final Output:

Interactive mobile app prototype

Structured case story presentation (from problem to prototype)

Course Outcomes

By completing the course, participants will:

  • Understand the role and tasks of a UI/UX designer.
  • Be familiar with mobile app development processes.
  • Learn Figma basics for creating digital sketches and prototypes.
  • Enhance their portfolio with a UI/UX project.

Assessment

The course concludes with an evaluation. Participants must attend at least 75% of the sessions to receive credit. A certificate from the Estonian Academy of Arts will be issued upon completion of a written feedback form.

Instructor

Andrei Kedrin graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts in 2006 with a BA in Graphic Design. He has 20 years of design experience and, for the past five years, has primarily worked as a designer of digital (B2B) products.

He teaches art courses at Kumu and is interested in new forms of digital art.
