SISU 2026 TALGU TALK

SISU is a major event in the field of Estonian interior architecture and spatial design. The symposium has become a meeting place for recognized theorists and practitioners in the field of (interior) architecture from around the world.

In addition to interior architects, various professionals working with space from interdisciplinary fields come together. Each symposium is shaped and guided by a program curated specifically for the event.

Based on the knowledge and experiences created at the SISU symposium, the creative research journal SISU-LINE is compiled.

he 2026 interior architecture symposium TALGU TALK focuses on modes of collaboration, inviting participants to explore the boundaries between architecture, interior architecture, design, and construction through hands-on collective work.

How do we work together?

(Archi/interior archi)tecture and design are shifting away from individual authorship toward fields that increasingly support collective creation. Talgud is a form of collaboration from the pre-digital era that remains timeless in its authenticity. Traditionally, it was a way to involve the community in larger tasks such as harvesting crops, building barns, or rebuilding after a fire. The culture of talgud cultivates, among other things, voluntary agency and the right to ask for and receive help. Presence — here and now.

Across Eastern Europe, the Baltics, and Scandinavia, rural communities have similar terms for this practice: in Polish Tłoka, in Ukrainian Toloka, in Lithuanian Talka, in Finnish Talkoot, and in Swedish Talko. In direct translation — collective self-help.

Bringing together the collective memory and culture of Northeastern Europe, TALGU TALK gathers 30 participants from both local and international contexts.
