Banking in Estonia

International students usually open a bank account at one of the following banks:

LHV (www.lhv.ee)
Swedbank (www.swedbank.ee)
SEB (www.seb.ee)

If you don’t yet have your temporary residency permit, opening a bank account can be pricey (this is required for non-EU citizens). It is advisable to do some research in advance to determine which service provider is best for you because different banks have varying terms and conditions and costs for their services.

In LHV Pank opening an account is free of charge for students (both EU or non-EU citizens). Apply here https://www.lhv.ee/student

You must have your passport on hand, or a notarized duplicate of it, in order to create a bank account. Please feel free to request your passport back if it is currently being held at the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board while you apply for a visa or residency permit so that you can conduct your necessary errands.

Be aware that it could take up to 10 working days to decide whether to open an account. If the response is yes, the bank requests that you visit the same office within 30 days after receiving the notice in order to open a bank account.
