Riin Alatalu Recognized with the White Star Decoration

Associate professor Riin Alatalu is congratulated by dean Hilkka Hiiop and vice-rector Anne Pikkov

Associate professor Riin Alatalu received the Valgetähe IV class medal (White Star) from the President of the Republic, Alar Karis.

Riin Alatalu is an energy bomb in the field of heritage, not afraid to speak loudly even in difficult and conflicting public debates, be it the red monuments, the extension of Estonia theater, the restaurant project of Tartu Cathedral or any other crisis issue that has arisen.

As Vice President Europe of ICOMOS and chairman of the Estonian Heritage Protection Council, she has a dignified position for this.

Riin has been working as an associate professor in the Department of Heritage Protection and Conservation of EKA since 2016, but she has been associated with us much longer as part of her master’s and doctoral studies and as a lecturer.
It seems that preservation of heritage in EKA, as well as in the whole of Estonia, cannot be done without Riin’s energy and sharpness. In addition to all this, Riin is an exceptionally kind and warm person, whose friend’s hand and shoulder you can always take if you want to laugh, cry or discuss the weather together.
