Duo Varm & Correia will release their second ambient music album “Hiiumaa” on November 7th, 2025.
The new album by Estonian-Portuguese musicians and multimedia artists Taavi Varm and Nuno Correia was inspired by the Estonian island Hiiumaa. “The goal was to explore the island, look for places where nature, folklore and traces of human activity intertwine, and encounter places from the remnants of forgotten times that have been swallowed by nature,” say Varm & Correia. The album’s music reflects the melancholic seascapes of Sääre Tirb, the electromagnetic waves of the Ristna antenna, the legend of Kurisu and the military ruins of the Tahkuna batteries.
Evening sessions and field recordings in Hiiumaa became the basis for the album’s “slow and breathing space, where the sea, wind and memories merge into a single ambient soundscape,” adds Taavi Varm.
Varm & Correia have been making music as a duo since 2022. They compose ambient music inspired by nature and its interplay with human presence. Their music reflects these contrasting elements, using field recordings and synthetic sounds. They often perform in a nature setting: Purekkare Cape at Biotoopia festival, Tallinn Botanical Garden at Artishok Biennale, as well as Tartu Botanical Garden at Loodusfestival (Tartu 2024). They released their debut EP Live at Purekkari Cape in 2023.
Taavi Varm is an artist and researcher from Tallinn, with a background in performing arts and video art. He’s interested in combining interactive narratives, new technologies and visual design.
Nuno Correia is an academic in the field of interaction design, and a media artist specializing in audiovisual performance. Originally from Portugal, he’s now based in Tallinn.
“Hiiumaa” will be released at a free virtual listening party on the duo’s Bandcamp, where everyone is invited to listen to the music and interact with the musicians.
The listening party will take place on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 7:00 PM, EET.
