Carla Castiajo and Elnara Taidre awarded prizes at the Estonian National Contest for University Students

In December 2017 this year’s prizes of the Estonian National Contest for University Students, organized by the Estonian Research Council together with the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research, were announced. In the field of Culture and Society, on the level of doctoral studies:

Carla Castiajo’s dissertation Purity or Promiscuity? Exploring Hair as a Raw Material in Jewellery and Art, supervisors prof Kadri Mälk (Estonian Academy of Arts) and prof emer. dr Robert Baines (RMIT University, Melbourne), defended in 2016 in the Art and Design curriculum, received the 1st prize. This is the first time that a high-ranking state award has been given for a project of artistic research.

Elnara Taidre’s dissertation Model, Metaphor, Play: The Total Mythological Work of Art in the Context of Paradigm Shift in the 20th Century, supervisor dr Virve Sarapik (Estonian Academy of Arts), defended in 2016 in the Art History and Visual Culture curriculum, received the 2nd prize.
