Gallery: Terra to Form – Exhibition by EKA students and teachers at the Museo della Ceramica in Mondovì
On 7th of June, students and teachers from the EKA Contemporary Art, Craft Studies and Ceramics departments opened an exhibition Terra to Form: Contemporary Ceramics from the Estonian Academy of Arts at Museo della Ceramica in Mondovì.
Rooted in the dual meaning of terra, as both raw earth and land, the exhibition explores the often unspoken practices of care that connect bodies to ground, material to maker. Ceramics, as a material, is both fragile and resilient, with endless possibilities for expression through its capacity for transformation. The act of holding, whether through the shaping of clay or the holding of a finished object, becomes a metaphor for the bonds that form between creator, material and viewer. In this exhibition, the formula is not fixed. Clay – as earth – is held, transformed, and returned in forms that tenderly speak of their resilience. It is a series of negotiations between the intention and the intuitive, between control and surrender. An exploration of what it means to hold something physically, emotionally, and metaphorically. Each piece reflects a different “formula” of holding: of grasping, protecting, containing, and sometimes letting go.
