Abandoned Landscapes: Kreenholm Manufacturing Company. Studio Project 01.2024–05.2024
The Abandoned Landscapes studio for the 2023/2024 spring semester focused on Kreenholm Manufacturing Company.
The studio focuses on exploring the relationship between architecture and the environment, using historical industrial landscapes and their potential in contemporary urban contexts as a starting point. This year, students centered their research and creative work on the former textile factory buildings and surrounding area of the Kreenholm industrial complex in Narva.
The studio began with an interdisciplinary workshop in Narva, involving both architecture and heritage conservation students. As an initial task, students critically analyzed the existing situation and developed a possible functional concept suited to the site. Based on this analysis, architecture students then began creating their studio projects, aiming to find a new function and spatial solution for the abandoned landscape. The challenge was to maximize and enhance the existing spatial qualities while logically integrating them with the proposed new function.
