Abandoned Landscapes: Kohila Paper Mill

Abandoned Landscapes: Kohila Paper Mill. Studio Project 01.2023–06.2023

You can read the booklet here.

The Abandoned Landscapes studio for the 2022/2023 spring semester focused on Kohila Paper Mill. Throughout the semester, students made multiple visits to Kohila and the paper mill, thoroughly analyzing its built environment and the broader area, mapping both its potential and its challenges. Through independent analysis, groups identified different key issues, based on which they formulated their final project brief. The shared task was to develop innovative programs and spatial visions for the abandoned factory building. Workshop “Abandoned Landscapes” of EKA students of architecture, interior architecture, heritage protection & conservation was looking for solutions to the questions that arose during one week.

This work-shop became a further semester project of the studio, which mostly drew the students’ attention to the Kohila Paper Mill and the potentials of this place.
