EKA animation department visiting Animateka film festival

The students of animation department of Estonian Academy of Arts visited the Animateka International Animated Film Festival on 29.11-05.12.2021 in Slovenia.

Animateka is an international animation festival that takes place in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Unlike most of the animated film festivals in Europe Animateka focuses on auteur animated film from Central and Eastern Europe. It stands out with its high quality artistic film selection and experienced programming of the long time artistic director of the festival Igor Prassel.

The animation department of Estonian Academy of Arts had a numerous representation of student films as well as films made by professors of the department participating at the Animateka festival this year.

The student film competition program Young Talent included the works of our recent graduees Tamires Muniz Ribeiro’s The Headless Mule and Bruno Quast’s Cufufu as well as and Tootheless by Andrea Guizar who studied in EKA animation department as an Erasmus student. 

The selection of Main Competition Program of the festival included films by former students of animation department of EKA Lucija Mrlzjak’s and Morten Tšinakov’s The Stork, Edmunds Jansons’s Guard Of Honor, Joonas Taul’s A Most Exquisite Man.

The Panorama programs had the works of our students Lyza Jarvis’ Drunk In Berlin, Fukumi Nakazawa’s Deforming After Transforming, Maria Rakitina’s Half Dreamingand graduees Bruno Quast’s I Just Breathe More, Francesco Rosso’s Four Stones, Anna Semjonova’s Veini, Viina, Veidi, Saverio Madis Santostasi’s Flat ‘n’ Round and also the work of our professor Martinus Klemet’s Face Recognition.

EKA animation department’s delegation that visited Animateka festival consisted of students from the 3rd year of BA studies, professor Martinus Klemet and the projects coordinator of animation department and a 3rd year student Lyza Jarvis.
