Faculty of Architecture Students Explore Estonia’s Spatial Future
On 1 October 2026, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications organised a nationwide workshop for students from various disciplines at Estonian higher education institutions as part of the preparation of the national spatial plan Estonia 2050. The event, titled Spatial Decision-Making Lab, brought together around 100 students in interdisciplinary teams to explore Estonia’s spatial future.
The Estonian Academy of Arts was represented by fourth-year Architecture and Urban Design students, as well as master’s students in Landscape Architecture and Urban Studies. Professor Andres Ojari participated as a mentor on behalf of EKA.
Throughout the day, students explored solutions to various future scenarios and discussed possible approaches. The event offered fresh perspectives, meaningful discussions and bold ideas. Topics included accommodating climate refugees, establishing a major industrial investment project, reorganising the school network in a shrinking region, developing technical infrastructure, and combining security with the vitality of border regions.
