The Faculty of Architecture Best Thesis Scholarships were awarded for the first time at the graduation ceremony of the Estonian Academy of Arts on June 19, 2025.
The thesis scholarship competition is open to all graduates of the Master’s program of the Faculty of Architecture of the Estonian Academy of Arts and is awarded every spring at the graduation ceremony. The scholarship aims to recognize outstanding graduates, support them in continuing with their research topic, and encourage the application of their results in independent creative work.
“At a time when the national performance scholarship has been discontinued and the cost of living and housing is only increasing, we established the Architecture Student Fund at the faculty,” says Sille Pihlak, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, explaining the need for the scholarships. “Within this framework, we have already awarded the “Learn and Shine” scholarships, now the thesis recognition, and from September we will also open semester scholarships on our own. I consider it very important that students can dedicate themselves to studying in the master’s program, and only through their support can we get closer to the growth of high-quality spatial culture. I thank all contributors from the bottom of my heart!”
The Best Thesis Scholarship Committee includes members of the master’s thesis defense committees. The master’s thesis of all study programs that achieved the result “A” and their compliance with the requirements were reviewed.
The committee appointed the following recipients of the Faculty of Architecture’s 2025 Best Thesis Scholarships (each €500):
Marta Elisabeth Tikman (Architecture and Urban Design)
Mari Uibo (Interior Architecture)
Madita Laura Kümmeringer (Urban Studies)
Congratulations!
The scholarships for the best theses will be awarded from 2025 by the Estonian Academy of Arts Foundation from the funds of the Architecture Students Scholarship Fund. The number and size of scholarships depend each year on the financial capabilities of the foundation in the current year.
