EKA exhibits wooded meadows and Estonian internationally recognized heritage at the the tourism fair Tourest 2026

The EKA UNESCO Chair on Cultural Heritage Studies introduces Estonian uniques wooded meadows at the tourism fair Tourest 2026.

EKA is a partner in the LIFE IP Woodmeadowlife project that aims the restoration and maintanance of species-rich wooded meadows across Estonia. The fact that these are not just beautiful meadows is proven by the fact that our wooded meadows,  created by the interaction of humans and nature, are  on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.  EKA supports the preparation of the wooded meadows’ application for inclusion in the World Heritage List through its research and activities. At the fair, EKA students will present mixed reality games based on wooded meadows, created with the help of international students at EKA EVA Lab, which place a virtual natural environment directly around the player. The “Small Lives” project is based on biological data, but uses this data in a creative way to tell a story in an artistic way. The aim is to encourage visitors to the exhibition to think about the problems facing wooded meadows.

The EKA UNESCO Chair  will exhibit also “Estonian Heritage on the World Map”. The exhibition  introduces places included in various international lists and networks such as UNESCO, the European Heritage Label, European Cultural Routes, etc., and their stories. The exhibition highlights works in Estonia that have been awarded the Europa Nostra prize. The aim of the exhibition is to showcase Estonia’s values in comparison with the rest of the world and  take pride of these achievements .
