The central studio of the first year of the master’s studies in the autumn semester of 2024 focused on the Pärnu KEK’s terraced house called the Golden Home. Instructor Pavle Stamenović introduced the course with the following words:
The MODERNISM BEGINS AT HOME
course focuses on the creative and transformative process of domesticating interior spaces in typologically determined architectural objects. Students will explore the principles of interior architecture to reimagine and repurpose these spaces into habitable, functional, and contemporary living environments.
By emphasizing on the proposed methodological tools such as tracing the existing, storytelling, designing relations, and shaping the space, this course aims to empower students with the skillsand knowledge to reconceptualize neglected urban areas and create sustainable scenarios for everyday life.

Course Objectives:
To develop an understanding of interior architecture principles and their application in
the process of converting and/or adapting typologically determined buildings.
To explore techniques for tracing the existing spatial elements and relations, as well as
historical significance of case buildings.
To develop the ability to craft compelling narratives and stories through the design
process.
To encourage innovative thinking and the anticipation of new uses for repurposed
interior spaces.
To foster an appreciation for designing human-centric relationships within domestic
spaces.
To teach effective space planning
