In October, the Estonian Blind Union recognized the winners and recipients of the 2025 Year of the Blind Award.
On October 16, just after International White Cane Day, the Estonian Blind Union recognized those people and organizations who have made an outstanding contribution to improving the independence, accessibility, and quality of life of visually impaired people through their work. The 2025 Year of the Blind Awards were presented at a festive ceremony at the Teachers’ House in Tallinn, where both innovative projects and long-term commitment to the community were recognized.
One of this year’s laureates was Anna Aurelia Minev, whose master’s thesis, defended at the Department of Interior Architecture of the Estonian Academy of Arts, dealt with the creation of accessible public space for the blind and visually impaired. Her work highlighted that the urban environment and public buildings are often designed only with sighted people in mind, which makes the spatial experience for visually impaired people discontinuous and unsafe.
