BA Speciality Project Exhibition: KATARSIS

As a specialisation project for the second year of the BA in the spring semester of 2023, students will design an exhibition as a group. While in previous years students have planned and built a complete spatial solution for an exhibition prepared by a gallery or curator, this time the entire course placed itself in the role of both artist and spatial creator, formalising their exhibition project “Catharsis” as a performance and spatial installation in an abandoned building opposite the Estonian Academy of Arts.

The students themselves described their approach in the following words: “Constant paranoia, falling behind and panic, but with the calmest face. I know how I’m doing, but are they doing as bad as me, are others doing better? It’s all one big endless vicious circle that spins around us every session. A cup of coffee in the morning turns into a Red Bull at lunch and then into wine and then the same cycle again tomorrow.

Catharsis is the release of emotional tension through art. Nine stressed interior designers are going through purgatory and you are part of it, whether you want it or not. Join our whirlwind and come out of it a new person. We don’t promise that it will make anyone a better person and we guarantee nothing except uniqueness. In a short time, tension, stress and uncertainty will appear before you. What will happen next? Don’t worry, because we don’t know either. Are you ready to become new again?”
