Costume design in the OP’s opening show!

OP! The opening episode of this season, or the 236th episode, featured one of the most technically innovative theatre productions of this autumn, ´´Ballaad´´, with Piret Puppart, the head of the EKA fashion department, as the costume designer.

A very special performance has been playing at the Kuressaare Theatre since September. It is a wordless dance performance by the Lips and Kuressaare Theatre dance troupe, “Ballaad”, which is performed simultaneously in four different halls in the theatre building. In short, the theatre visitor sees the dances from all four halls. The movement is timed – the choreography is exactly the same length and then the audience moves on to the next hall and the dance troupe dances the same dance again for a new audience. However, the theatre’s lighting designer Tarmo Matt controls the lighting and sound in all four halls at the same time, without him even seeing what is happening in the halls.

The production “Ballaad”, with 28 dance numbers, is inspired by Jaan Tätte’s poem “Ballaad No. 2”. The music for the production is composed by Sander Mölder. The dance performance, which lasts almost two hours, features the Lips dance troupe, which has been active for eight years. The costumes for the 17 dancers and the stage were designed by Piret Puppart.
