The subject of the third-year bachelor’s degree autumn semester drawing course this time was Richard Brautigan’s short story “In Watermelon Sugar”. Wikipedia writes about the book:
“In Watermelon Sugar” (“In Watermelon Sugar”) is a short story by American writer Richard Brautigan, published in 1968.
The novel tells the story of an idyllic, non-violent community living a life organized around a central building called iDEATH (“my DEATH”). Many things in this environment are made of watermelon sugar, although pine wood and stone are also used as building materials, and fuel is made from trout fat. The landscape of the novel is constantly changing. The sun is a different color every day, creating different colored watermelons, and the central building also changes frequently.
Course instructor Linda Zupping invited students to discuss topics about what spaces built of watermelon sugar would mean in terms of (interior) architecture.
