At the opening of the annual EKA grad show TASE, the laureates of the Young Artist, Young Designer and Young Applied Artist awards were announced. The Young Artist Award was awarded to Helena Pass, a bachelor’s student in graphic arts, and Viktoria Martjanova, a master of contemporary art. The Endover Award was won by Rebecca Norman, a bachelor’s student in painting. The Young Designer Award was given to Mette Mari Kaljase, a bachelor’s student in graphic design, for her work “Duo for Stan and Karl”, which is a fresh and creative exhibition experience, where music is described in a design language characterized by color and texture. The work was surprising and novel, and graphically well executed. Special mentions in the same municipality were given to graphic design student Rasmus Einman for his work “Konterbant” and product design student Kendra Kabanen for “Supporting an elderly loved one with care needs on the journey to a welfare institution (the example of Viljandi municipality). The Young Designer Master’s Award went to Eva Reiska for her work “Ioncell Fibers from Fallen Tree Leaves”. Reiska’s work in the field of circular design has great innovation potential and practical value. In her work, Reiska presents a strong academic background, good collaboration skills with top players in the field and finds an application for a resource that decays in nature, producing decomposing tree leaves as consumer goods. Special mentions were given to social design student Hanna Pohla for ““Empowered Me”: Axes of Exiting Prostitution through the Principles of Design Justice” and graphic design student Hanafi Ghazali for “Department”. The committee consisted of Kai Lobjakas, Jane Jakobson, Kärt Villmann and Pent Talvet. The Young The Applied Artist Award went to Paul Aadam Mikson, a bachelor’s student in jewelry and blacksmithing, whose work’s heavy iron bars exude a sense of lightness – it’s a very beautiful and poetic work. The author has a strong sense of composition, the work is traditional, but it has a fresh and well-thought-out feel. The author has gotten to the essence of the matter – the delicacy of the depicted buckwheat and the strength of the metal are well balanced in the work. The work expresses the conceptual understanding of blacksmithing technology well. Ceramics student Maria Kim was awarded a special mention because her work forms a complete whole and her work has a very beautifully worked out space. The student is praised for her very fine choice of materials, which strongly conveyed the concept. The Young Applied Artist Award went to Rait Lõhmus, a master’s student of craft studies. The committee gave first place to an applied artist whose work was distinguished by strong development potential and relevance to the times. The work deals with a globally important problem, has the potential to speak to different social groups and move beyond the boundaries of applied art. Kristel Aimee Laur received a special mention, whose work stood out for its strong integrity and appreciation of the life process through the material. The work is of a very high professional level and fits exceptionally well with the specifics of the space. Hanna Segerkrantz was also mentioned, whose work deserves praise for its elaboration of the theme, enormous research work, professional display and harmony of concept and aesthetics. The committee consisted of Annika Kiidron-Roomets, Julia Maria Künnap, Edith Karlson and Aimur Takk. The TASE exhibition will remain open until June 19 at the Designers’ House, Rävala pst 8. However, the exciting program will take place in locations all over the city. You can find all information about the festival at tase.artun.ee
