The collaborate exhibition implies the question of what is being hidden/revealed from the observers. The focus is on the relationships between inner and outer layers, covering and core, mask and truth. Covering or wrapping functions as the filter transmitting or blocking out the qualities of contents. In a selective way, it’s shaping the communication between inside and out. Both artists are approaching the topic in slightly different ways.

Liina Leo (b.1993) received a bachelor’s degree in Textile Design from the Estonian Academy of Arts this June and was awarded the Mari Adamson Prize. She complemented her undergraduate program with a one year at the Kunsthochschule Berlin Weissensee specializing in surface design. Beginning this autumn, Liina is working as a weaving workshop tutor at the Estonian Academy of Arts.

Misa Asanuma (b.1994) is an artist from Japan. She studied literature at Meiji University, Tokyo. She is currently in the middle of her MA studies in the department of Contemporary Art of the Estonian Academy of Arts and mainly working on photography.

“We are pleased to invite you to the opening of the Estonian Association of Interior Architects exhibition called 80 Years of Interior Architecture Studies on Tuesday, November 20^th at 6 p.m at EKA Gallery.

The exhibition curated by Karin Paulus tells the story of eighty years of interior architecture studies in Estonia. The exhibition will feature exciting student projects and furniture designs, the department’s faculty members as well as academic events and fun undertakings. The designer of the exhibition is Toivo Raidmets, the longtime director of the Interior Architecture and Furniture Design Department.

A seminar will take place in the Estonian Academy of Arts auditorium on November 23^rd. More information available soon.

Join us for the opening of the Young Sculptor Award 2018 exhibition “Prediction and Preservation” on October 3 at 6 pm. This is the first show at the gallery’s new location in the Estonian Academy of Arts, Põhja pst 7.

The exhibition focuses on the present, or maybe even different quests for the present. The present should be a place where the decisions about the past and the future are born. Therefore, the present itself is the most uncharted and unstable space-time. The future may seem like it has been before—a conventional, predictable and unchanging product of imagination and fiction. The real world is the place where unforeseen events are happening. It presents ethical problems that are more vexing than reminisces of the past or projections for the future. Welcome to the present moment, where the instruments are real space and active time units!

Artists who work with space and object fix their minds on the time dimension and the temporary; they ask how and what we perceive in our current space, and how it will be seen as it changes into the past. How the environment designs the future? How can we design ourselves for being present in the present? How values are created by things that happened or were perceived to happen in this space? Can the space become outdated or postponed?

The 2018 Young Sculptor Award show is the seventh in this series. The main goal of the show and its award is to highlight young sculptors and installation artists, support their creative production and open it to a wider public. Works are accepted to the show through open call for the sculpture and installation students, works have to be produced during the ongoing academic year. The grand prix and the second and third prize are awarded by an international jury. The awards are travels to important art events around the world.

“Ghostly light ahead of me in the darkness. A disembodied voice starts calling to reach the other side. An echo piercing *din/dong* and never fades. ‘—Is that you? I hear someone talking back. Or is it me? Have I begun to crack?’ ‘—Inhale.’ (eyes open). ‘— Exhale.’ (eyes closed).

Heart break memories, I have stacks. ‘—So tell me, what do I lack?’ ‘—To only feel love in moments of hate?’ ‘—As I set fire to surroundings I had already instigate?’
Beyond the mirror, I see cracks. A sense of pressure with no more room. Read scars share stories of many attacks. And Echo roars back with a sonic boom.”

Noëmi Merca (b. 1991, FR) lives and works in Paris. Co-founder of www.dieselprojectspace.be with Xavier Mary. Her recent exhibitions include: ‘Fallen Angels’ (2017) in duo with Bora Akincitürk at Komplot, Brussels (BE), ‘Bubble Tea’ (2016) with PANE project, Milan (IT). Upcoming exhibition in duo with Tatiana Karl Pez (2018).

Homme, 9. juunil kell 17.00 – 20.00 linastuvad Kino Sõpruses TASE FILMIL Eesti Kunstiakadeemia 2016/17 tudengifilmide paremik. Esmakordselt linastub TASE FILMIl külalislinateos “Natalja” (Kadi Poll, Laura Kõrvits), mis võitis Balti Filmi- ja Meediakooli parim dokumentaali tiitli. Film räägib EKA modellist Nataljast. Sissejuhatuse teeb produtsent Laura Kõrvits.

Seekord tegi valiku žürii koosseisus kunstnik Kristi Kongi, kunstiteadlane Keiu Krikmann, kunstnik Olivia Verev (I TASE FILM korraldaja), graafiline disainer/visuaalkunstnik Norman Orro, turundusspetsialist/kunstnik Rachel Kinbar, animatsiooni osakonna juhataja Helen Unt ja kommunikatsiooni osakonna juhataja Solveig Jahnke.

Valikusse sattusid filmid nii vabade kunstide, arhitektuuri- kui disainiteaduskonnast. Ringvaatesse saavad ka valitud lühikatsetused ja moestilistika reklaamfilmid, mida saavad näha varased saabujad alates kell 16.30.

Reidi tee projekt – Juhan Teppart

Urbanistika magistritöö osana valminud dokfilmi. Magistritöö uurib Reidi tee projekteerimise ümber lahvatanud konflikti, selle erinevaid osapooli ja mõju teeprojekti menetlemisele. Dokfilm on kokku lõigatud magistritöö raames läbiviidud intervjuudest ja toob välja võtmeisikute rollid ja eri osapoolte vastandlikud seisukohad ja Tallinna linnaplaneerimise murekohad.

II sessioon

Freedog Trippo Priidik (7 min) – Vello Lutter

Käesoleva aasta alguses toimus EKA graafilise disaini II kuruse tudengite eksperimentaalsete lühidokumentaalfilmide workshop “14 karakterit”. Minu poolt valmis film “Freedog Trippo Priidik”, milles räägib oma nägemusest ja nime valimisest muusik Priidik Hallas. Muusika filmis on tema enda looming. Film ise on tänu oma tempole ja peategelase karakterile 7-minutiline vitamiinipomm.

Funeral (32 min) – Robin Nõgisto

Autorifilm, mis jutustab igavikulise loo elust ja surmast. Robin Nõgisto film “Funeral” ei ole religioosne film, vaid räägib lugu autori enda loodud mütoloogilisest maailmast.

Filmis põimuvad läbi kolm tegelast, kes kõik on otsingutel, otsides neile kuuluvat vabadust. Lugu keerleb ümber noormehe, kes on kahe maailma vahel kinni ja kelle missiooniks on leida lepitus iseendaga, kuid hoopis leiab armastuse keda on igatsenud.

“Funeral” on kõike muud kui dramaturgia, tegemist on kunstniku omanäolise positsiooniga. See seisab kõige eest mida autor omal nahal tunneb ja tunnetab.

Teos on filmitud anamorphic objektiiviga ja on mõeldud spetsiaalselt suurele ekraanile.

Filmis löövad kaasa peale autori enda, Roosi Natali Nõgisto ja Olivia Verev.

Mees veetis enamus oma elust vanglas. Tema keha on üleni kaetud tätoveeringutega, mis räägivad tema kriminaalsest minevikust ja kõrgest positsioonist. Aga ühel hetkel saab ta vanglast välja.. Kui lihtne on tal lahkuda oma Tsoonist, oma mugavustsoonist?

A bored cow tries to find some means of self expression. Some visiting clowns offer a

tempting glimpse of chaos. A farmer tries to keep control of the situation, seeing this spread

of chaos as a kind of plague which he must put a stop to. But the seeds of chaos are planted

deeply and cannot be eradicated completely.

Sand animation about three people and one fox. How obsession pulls, friend refuses to let go and how hard it is to forget. It’s a story of a situation so muddy it’s difficult to come out of it in tact. The wicked fox can’t help even if she really wants to.

Lugu „Ükskord igavuse väljadel“ kätkeb endas õhtuhämaruses peetavat õhtusööki, piknikku, mille osalisteks on tegelased Naine ja Mees. Tegevust justkui ei toimuks, dialoog näib olevat vaikimises, kuniks toimub katkestus – mille tagajärjel Naine lahkub/kaob vaateväljalt. Mees on segaduses ja otsustab Naisele järgneda. Peale pikki otsinguid metsas jõuab ta sarnasele piknikustseenile, mille osalisteks on Naine koos uue, tundmatu tegelasega. Mehe kohaleilmumisest ei muutu midagi, tema roll ühe osapoolena selles suhtes on läbi saanud.

Film räägib igavusest. Eksistentsiaalsest tühjusest ja igatsusest. Joonistatud animatsioonitegelaste viimisega projektsioonina metsa taustale üritasin tekitada teatava nihke karakterite olemuse ja ümbritseva keskkonna vahel, mis aitaks edasi anda nende valikuid ja käitumist.

My short animation „Once in the Fields of Boredom“ is a short story about a couple whose life together has come to an end – they struggle with boredom.

The movie starts with a supper, which is obviously dull and intolerable for both of them, especially for the Women. When there is an interruption with the flow and the Man shifts his attention to the possible interloper, the Woman disappears. As there is still some feelings and curiosity left, the Man starts to look for the Woman. He finds her after interrupting her supper with a new companion and realizes his defeat.

This story is technically a mixture of frame-by-frame animation projected on the forest. There is a shift in the design of the characters and the real forest. With this technique I wanted to emphasize their acting and the importance of the choices they make.

Mõni asi tiksub, mõni voolab ja kolmas võtab lihtsalt poose. Muusikaline animatsioon proovib oma audiovisuaalses maailmas väljendada liikumise vaatamisest saadavat mõnu.

Muki and Kalju know what can be done with the water in the graveyard well. Their ritual frees spirits hidden in the ground. Such consciousness can do nothing but repeat an action. There are things that tick, some that flow and others that just strike poses. The audiovisual world in this musical animation is trying to convey the pleasure in watching movement.

SISU Symposium of Interior Architecture and Spatial Use 2017 “Naked Space”
7. – 8. 06. Luzern, Neubad, Switzerland and Mobile Classroom of the EAA Dept of Interior Architecture, in Tallinn

The SISU 2017 symposium will focus on re-use of interior space and community-driven redesign processes. The symposium will shed light on the question, how interior architecture is able to create an identity for naked space while ‘re-dressing’ it, and how this can contribute new value to the whole neighbourhood. What are our needs today and how does it influence the re-purposing process? How can we investigate the space inside the buildings of the past?

SISU will approach these questions across different disciplines including interior architects/designers, architects, filmmakers, academics and students from different cultures for the first time in parallel in Switzerland and in Estonia.
