The Estonian Academy of Arts has coordinated the first set of artistic research roundtables within the Transform4Europe (T4EU) Alliance as part of Work Package 7 Transforming Heritage. The roundtables took place throughout 2025, mainly in October, and support the development of a shared strategy for artistic and practice-based research across the Alliance.
The aim of Task 7.5 is to strengthen artistic research as a driver of innovation, knowledge transfer, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Under EKA’s coordination, the roundtables were organised to:
- build a common understanding of artistic research;
- explore differences, challenges, and opportunities across disciplines;
- collect examples of practice-based research methods;
- identify needs for future collaboration and teaching.
By the end of 2025, roundtables had taken place at EKA, Sofia University, Jean Monnet University, the University of Primorska, the University of Silesia, and Vytautas Magnus University, bringing together researchers, academic staff, PhD students, and cultural sector partners.
The results will feed into the Transform4Europe Artistic Research Roadmap and support the development of joint courses and learning materials. The next step will be an alliance level roundtable and expert meeting in January 2026 in Tallinn, during the T4EU WP7 Heritage Conference. The conference “Spatial Dimensions of Heritage | Creative Research Capacities” is organized by EKA.
