This year, 1,150 applications were submitted to the Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA), which is approximately 30 more than last year and also the highest number ever. An average of 3.7 people applied for one study place.
The highest increase in the number of applications this year was seen in the bachelor’s degree photography and master’s degree interaction design curricula. The highest competition for one study place was in the bachelor’s degree animation and master’s degree art studio curricula.
EKA Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Anne Pikkov: “The record interest in the Estonian Academy of Arts shows that creative education is increasingly seen as an opportunity to shape the future and find one’s calling. EKA’s task is to support students so that their ideas help find answers to future challenges and open up opportunities for their implementation. The only pity is that this year there are many more good candidates than we can accept.”
At the bachelor’s level, the most applications were submitted to the fashion, textile and accessory design curriculum (88 applications). This was followed by interior architecture (81 applications) and architecture and urban planning (70 applications). A total of 705 applications were received for bachelor’s studies.
In master’s studies, the greatest interest was in the contemporary art curriculum (67 applications), followed by interaction design and graphic design (51 applications for both). A total of 357 applications were submitted for master’s studies.
The growth trend continues in doctoral studies – the average competition for one study place is 8.8. The largest competition was in the art and design doctoral curriculum, where 53 applications were submitted. A total of 88 applications were submitted for the four doctoral curricula.
Of the joint curricula, the joint curriculum of the Estonian Academy of Arts, the Latvian Academy of Arts and the University of Lapland, Service Design Strategies and Innovation, where 963 applications were submitted. The joint art teacher master’s programme of the Estonian Academy of Arts and Tallinn University also achieved good results, with significantly more applications submitted compared to last year – 43.
