Evaluation of Estonian Academy of Arts Architecture Department 3rd year students in Venice

You are kindly invited to the evaluation of Estonian Academy of Arts Architecture Department 3rd year students on the 27th of May 2018 from 10 am to 2 pm at the Biennale Sessions area in Giardini. Students will be presenting their projects for the studio BUILDINGS FOR A BETTER SOCIETY: SCHOOL BUILDINGS, focusing on energy efficient new school room.

Supervisors: Bernhard Sommer (Visiting Prof.), Galo Moncayo (Visiting Associate Prof.), Siim Tuksam, Sille Pihlak
Assistant: Johanna Jõekalda

While the studio focused on a fictitious Estonian Ministry of Environment in the previous year, this year the studio task was to design a school campus in Austria based on an actual competition brief. The studio investigated novel spatial concepts following alternative didactic models in education. During the studio, aspects of energy consumption, such as the influence of building programs, the construction of the building skin or applied materials were discussed. The students were asked to base their whole work on algorithmic design concepts and to apply digital planning and fabrication strategies.

3rd year students evaluation will be held in Venice this year in connection with the opening of the 16th International Architecture Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia. The events will bring top experts from the architectural world to Venice, who can offer invaluable feedback to students works.

Faculty of Architecture of the Estonian Academy of Arts opened an energy performance professorship in the autumn of 2016 in cooperation with Merko Ehitus, with Austrian architect and top energy performance expert Bernhard Sommer and energy design lecturer Galo Moncayo teaching in the Architecture and Urban Design Department.
