Modernization of the Manor Portal mois.ee

Riisipere manor house in 1840 (Elisabeth Rigby: A Residence on the Shores of the Baltic. Described in a series of letters. 1842)

The aim of the project is to modernize and develop the databases of Estonian manors, including mois.ee, into a multi-level digital platform for collecting, systematizing and managing information about the manor heritage.

The creation of the content of the database takes place on two levels – academic and public. Academic input is provided by lecturers and students of EKA, who focus on processing archive data, articles, research papers; updating descriptions, digitizing materials, taking photographs, etc. and ensuring the continuity of activities. The public level involves those interested in collecting historical records, written and oral materials and memories, as well as in fixing the state of the buildings. Involvement of the public helps to gather a diverse amount of information about manors, including the results of the on-the-spot visits of inspection and information from private collections, which cannot be achieved through the work of researchers and students only.

As a result of the project, a functioning platform will be created, where the textual data of the mois.ee portal and the inventories of the 1970s with a selection of photos have been entered. The database cross-references other databases (ais.ra.ee; register.muinas.ee; ajapaik.ee, etc.).

The database of manors contains important knowledge about Estonian history, culture, architecture, economy, social conditions and relationships and helps to better understand the multifaceted role of manors in shaping the identity of the certain region and the whole of Estonia.

The development of the database is an important part of EKA’s research and teaching work, and the implementation of the project opens up new opportunities for other memory and educational institutions as well.
