She creates long-term projects in which she explores the visual experience of the environment and her relationship to it. She is interested in different approaches to new media art and combines installation , video , photography , light and sound.

This research discovers the ecosystem of the future, breaks it down and analyses only one part of it in detail. These are the remains of organic matter that have been transformed into inorganic forms during the fossilisation process, leaving imprints that speak of a specific period and place in history. We are looking at a fossil record, or a fossil herbarium, a record of a living organism that exists in a world that has not yet come into being, but which reflects a picture of a relatively present world that is about to come to an end in this kind of form and presentation

Sarah Noonan at Vent Space

The Dirt Road, Vent Space Exhibition by Masters of Contemporary Art student Sarah Noonan opens May 2 at 18.00.

Exhibition Opening times are 2–7 May from 15.00–19.00.

02.05–07.05 The Dirt Road by Sarah Noonan

On September 24th, 2022 a small hurricane in Atlantic Canada destroyed an abandoned tree farm on a dirt road. The exhibition The Dirt Road symbolizes how the attachment to a specific location and the origin of home can turn a place into somewhere that is precious. Materials and memory teleport familiarity while roaming unnaturally through structures and color. To explore the ethereal desolation of nature, textile sculptures create an abstract representation of the dirt road. This installation environment recollects sensitive traits from this cherished place. It reveals how the roots of our upbringing are abandoned by abstract forms and imagining memories; But ground feelings of regret with youthful honesty.

Sarah Noonan uses her own discarded clothes and belongings to transform worn and renewed fabrics into hand-sewn, mixed media sculptures. Through indiscriminate uses of craft and textile materials they investigate material qualities of durability and softness. Their art reveals fragile layers of sentiment around us that navigate connections to inhabiting places. Changes in time, place, and acceptance encourages us to identify feelings of intrinsic worth.

We Were one girl of us We talked a lot among ourselves

Vent Space Gallery
Opening of the exhibition on November 26, 5-8 p.m.

The joint exhibition of Brit Kikas and Dana Lorên Vares looks at shedding the skin as a constant rebirth. Through repetition, jewelry art and graphics come together, bringing to the viewer tactile changes that form endless chains and patterns.

“There was one girl of us

We talked a lot among ourselves

We had no brothers or sisters, and neither did our father and mother

We didn’t grieve very often

Sad evil calls for beating

Besides, we knew that the parents are alive, they are hidden in a secret bunker made in the forest

We lacked upbringing, so to speak

We didn’t give anyone up

Two burning spots melted under our feet every spring

Only later did I realize that I live in the singular”

Ieva Viese-Vigula and Gints Virgilijs Tilks at Vent Space Gallery

In this project Ieva Viese-Vigula and Gints Virgilijs Tilks are developing the topics of hopes, fears and beliefs that become self fulfilling prophecies. They are exploring their matter from the perspective of observing and being observed as their departure point. Distorted visions in forms of misunderstandings and superstitions. Unable to overcome the physical boundaries of the human eye, the sight, the perception.
Gints Virgiljs Tilks and Ieva Viese-Vigula are two of the five members of young artist-curated DOM gallery and study in parallel courses of the Audiovisual department of Latvian Art academy.
Ieva Viese-Vigula (1987) researches the subjects of her interest in an interdisciplinary manner – as a poet, critic and from the perspective of visual arts. Her focus is the shared concepts that form into words or images and the superstitions, misconceptions and misleading expectations that are part of most forms.
Gints Virgilis Tilks (1997) uses sculptural elements, photographic imagery and digital composition to create spatially diffused narratives. He has participated in Augmented reality group show As if lost exploring the possibilities of digital art to bypass the rules of gravity.

Maria Izabella Lehtsaar and Sarah Nõmm at Vent Space

The opening of the exhibition Hardcore Gentleness by Maria Izabella Lehtsaar and Sarah Nõmm will take place on 25 August at 18.00 at the Vent Space project room.

The first duo exhibition by Lehtsaar and Nõmm focuses on the intertwining of intimacy, mental health, sense of security, control and loss of control in a person’s life through common elements of both artists’ creative practice. In their artistic dialogue, Lehtsaar and Nõmm talk about the challenges of girlhood and coming of age. The artists explore the interdependent dynamics of security and intimacy in different relationships, everyday expressions of gender and sexuality, and the role of everyday rituals in coping with mental health issues.

The tension at the heart of the exhibition is the juxtaposition between categories – such as light and heavy, soft and harsh, safe and dangerous, and acceptable and unacceptable – which is characteristic of the work of Lehtsaar and Nõmm. The aim of the convened duo show is to manifest the role of sexual expression in art and life, emphasising the importance of a sense of personal security and belonging, shared joys and concerns, and the well-being of one’s mind and body.

Curators: Anita Kodanik and Brigit Arop

Graphic design: Michael Fowler

Maria Izabella Lehtsaar (1998) is an artist based in Tallinn who combines textiles, graphics, drawing, installation and text in their work. Their works deal mainly with the themes of queer experience and mental health, often playing on the fragile border between reality and fantasy. Lehtsaar graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts with a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Art and is currently studying in the Contemporary Art MA programme. In 2021, they were awarded the Edmund Valtman scholarship.

Sarah Nõmm (1998) is an artist based in Tallinn who works primarily with sculpture, installation, video and performance. Her work deals with the female body and the spaces surrounding it. Nõmm’s works are often based on personal experiences and look at themes of the body through popular beliefs, myths, taboos and everyday rituals. She has a bachelor’s degree in Sculpture and Installation from the Estonian Academy of Arts. In 2021, she was awarded the Young Sculptor Prize.

The exhibition is open every day at 13.00–19.00 from 26 August to 31 August.
