From January 19–25, a study trip to Rome took place for bachelor’s students. The trip was connected to Krista Kodres’s course “Problems of Classical Architecture.” The focus was on Renaissance and Baroque architecture, as well as the art of the same period more broadly, and on antiquity, which served as the foundation for classical architecture.
The sites visited were arranged more or less chronologically, starting with the oldest: the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, the Arch of Constantine and the Forum Boarium, the Vatican Museums, and St. Peter’s Basilica. Numerous other churches and palaces were also visited, among which Palazzo Farnese and Villa Lante deserve special mention; at the latter, the group was hosted by the Finnish Institute. One of the days was dedicated to villas outside Rome: Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este. At each site, students gave presentations, which were supplemented by the instructors as needed.
The participating students were: Kaisa Linn, Anna Theresa Gustavson, Iiris Ehalill Riistop, Maria Eliisa Jakobson, Veli Nõmmik, Anni Paisu, Ekke Valner, Adrian Abner, Birte Endjärv, Gerda Raudsepp, Villem Saar, Kadri Liis Lubja, and Marju Pilv. In addition to Krista Kodres, the instructors included Mart Kalm, Epp Lankots, Maria Yudina, and Mari Laaniste.
