On Thursday, 16th of March at 19:00, EKA Graphic Design and Product Design second year students open their collective exhibition ‘Randomness, where?’ at ARS Art Factory Studio 53/98.

The exhibition showcases works from more than 20 authors, who explore the theme of randomness and its many forms of expression through personal observations, discovering the beauty of the unpredictable. Can anything be truly random? Is unintended behaviour a human condition differentiating us from algorithms, and what kind of patterns arise when observing unexpected events over time.

Randomness is explored through a vast variety of mediums within the exhibition – such as installation, sculpture, photography, interactive pieces, light installation, sound etc.

The exhibition is open for only three days: 17th until 19th of March, from 13.00-18.00.

Exhibition “The Divergence From a Predefined Outline”

The art exhibition “The Divergence From a Predefined Outline” by Estonian Academy of Arts Graphic Design and Product Design 2nd year students will be opened on Wednesday, March 16 at 6 pm.

The joint exhibition of the two departments presents a series of works that were initially intended to be exhibited without any common theme or curation in mind. However, accompanied by the abrupt diversion from the European political timeline during the semester, a theme of mapping current temporal and spacial conditions became a perceivable focus point. Keywords such as information warfare, misinterpretation, indeterminacy and artificiality came to the fore. The planned cacophony leans toward a sense of wholeness or a palpable new understanding of the present time, which is represented by 11 artworks.

The exhibition “Open Windows” will reopen on the windows of the Library of EKA on February 21, at 4 pm.

Through the exhibition of EKA windows, different specialities of EKA introduce their most outstanding projects and the latest creations of students. The exhibition can be viewed on the windows of the EKA Library on Põhja pst and Kotzebue streets and will remain open until March 14.

EKA’s Graphic Design and Product Design 2nd year students open a joint online exhibition “Best Before” at www.bestbefore.ee from Friday, March 26 at 18:00.

The artists use time-based media to explore themes of temporality and self-preservation, mapping various mindsets initiated by unconventional and isolated circumstances imposed by enhanced coronavirus restrictions introduced during the development of the exhibition. The diverse video art exhibition expires on 26.04.

We invite you to take part in a rare opportunity to serve in the Special Programs Think Tank to envision and create hypothetical “special programs” that Estonia’s government might instate, either in the future or in parallel realities.
This five-day event will provide you with the chance to design preferable paths for government, guided by future-visioning strategists from the Extrapolation Factory. Over the course of the workshop, participants will be introduced to the essential principles of futures studies and will learn to identify signals, extrapolate implications and create future artefacts.
Each program will be announced through physical, print or digital artefacts to be shared with local citizens.

For the first time, the Product Design Department of Estonian Academy of Arts will join the lineup of Stockholm Furniture & Light from 5 to 9 February, 2019. Alongside 29 design schools and 37 young, upcoming designers and design studios from altogether 21 countries, Estonian Academy of Arts will be exhibiting at the Greenhouse section of the fair, booth C18:37.

On view in Stockholm, Sweden, are 1:1 furniture prototypes designed during two studio classes of the Autumn 2018 Semester.

The Department of Product Design has been generously supported by the European Regional Development Fund, and the Architecture Endowment of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.

In addition to the general admissions requirements, candidates are expected to submit a letter of intent describing their interest in attending the workshop, and a PDF portfolio including documentation of at least one project relevant to the use and/or attributes of wood.

This 6-day workshop Wood and Design in the lush woodlands of Viljandi, Estonia, focuses on the design aesthetics, ecology, and sustainability of wood. Exploring the material properties of wood through its use in design, the workshop invites participants to build a set of functional wooden objects for outdoor living with the simplest of means. Participants will utilise wood, as a naturally-occurring renewable material, in two forms: solid slab and left-over scraps from local lumber mills. The workshop is therefore not only community-inspired, with materials sourced or found locally, but also meets the ever-growing need to reclaime and recycle waste wood.

Level:

2nd and 3rd year BA students and MA students in Interior Architecture, Furniture Design, or the equivalent.
